Retractable Clothesline, 304 Steel Wire, 13.8 ft, No-Drill
Fits if: any two points up to 13.8 ft apart on a smooth, solid wall - tiles, glass, painted plaster, metal or wood.
Not for: stucco, wallpaper, rough brick or fresh paint under the adhesive plate. Spans longer than 13.8 ft - the wire runs out before you reach the anchor.
Size: wire 13.8 ft. Housing 5.7 x 3.5 x 3.3 in, 15.2 oz (430 g).
Load: 44 lb (20 kg). Supplier rating for a screw-mounted plate.
Every rental bathroom I have lived in has the same problem: one towel bar, four people, and a pile of hand wash that has nowhere to go until the weekend.
This is a box the size of a soap dish that hides 13.8 ft (4.2 m) of wire inside it. Pull the wire out, hook it over the plate on the opposite wall, twist the knob to LOCK, and it holds. Twist back to FREE and it winds itself in.
The wire is 304 stainless with a coating over it, so it does not rust in a steamy room and it does not leave a grey line on white shirts. The maker rates it at 44 lb (20 kg) when the plate is screwed on. The adhesive plate is the easier install, but I would not hang a wet duvet off it.
Both fittings come in the box: an adhesive plate for a tiled wall you are not allowed to drill, and screws plus plugs for a wall that is yours.
Two colours, white and black. When it is retracted all you see is the housing, which is the whole point - it stops looking like a laundry day.
What I cannot tell you is how it behaves in a room with no window and no extractor. If the wall stays wet, no coating lasts forever.
What you get: the housing, the anchor plate, the adhesive pad, and a screw kit. No pegs, no hangers.
