Soap that stops sitting in its own water

An open dish does one thing well: it turns a bar of soap into a soft grey mush. The water has nowhere to go, so the bar sits in it, and by the end of the week the dish has a film you would rather not look at.

This is a small box that goes on the wall instead. The bar rests on a wire grid, so water drops away from it rather than pooling underneath. The front panel swings down when you want the soap, and closes back flush when you do not, which means you see a clean tile wall rather than another plastic tub next to the basin.

It sticks on. There is an adhesive pad on the back, so no drill, no tile bit and no conversation with a landlord. Wipe the tile, press it on, give it time to set, then load it.

Two widths. The compact one is 5 inches wide and 5 inches tall, for a single bar at the basin. The double is 9.4 inches wide with two compartments, so a bar can live at the sink and another in the shower, or soap and a nail brush side by side.

The shell is glossy ABS with a slim rose-gold line around the panel. It reads closer to ceramic than to plastic, which is why it does not look out of place against tile and a chrome tap.

What we will not do is invent a number. The factory does not publish a load rating for this box, so there is none on this page. It is for bar soap, a sponge and a small scrubber - not for bottles.

Perfect for my small bathroom

My bathroom is tiny and counter space is basically nonexistent, so wall mounting was the whole point. The 5 inch one takes up almost no room and keeps the bar off the counter. Simple, does the job, looks nice.

Good, the pad left a little residue

The box itself is great and my soap finally dries out. When I adjusted it after the first day the adhesive pad left a bit of sticky residue on the tile. Came off with some rubbing alcohol, so not a dealbreaker.

Clean look next to my faucet

Replaced a clunky ceramic dish that was always full of water. This thing sits flush and the drain grid keeps the bar dry. Installed it on a Saturday morning in about ten minutes start to finish.

Great for soap, skip the bottles

It's clearly meant for a bar and a sponge, which is fine because that's what I wanted. I did try resting a small travel bottle on it once and it felt like too much weight. Stick to soap and it's perfect.

Held up great in a wet shower

I was skeptical about adhesive in a constantly wet shower but it's been up since early spring with zero issues. The ABS hasn't warped or discolored at all. Grid drains well and my bar doesn't get slimy anymore.

Nice but I measured wrong

My fault entirely, but I assumed the compact would be bigger. It's genuinely only 5 inches and my oversized artisan soap bar barely fits corner to corner. Quality is good and the drain works, I just should have gotten the 9.4.

Second one for the guest bath

Liked the first one at my sink so much I ordered another for the guest bathroom. Both went up without any tools and have stayed put through a few months of daily showers. The rose-gold line is a nice touch against white subway tile.

The swing panel is the best part

I love that the front flips down and then closes flush. My old open dish always had that film and looked messy from across the room. This one just looks like a clean little box on the wall until you need it.

Solid, but check your tile texture

Works great on my smooth porcelain tile. I bought a second one for the guest bath which has those bumpy faux-stone tiles and the adhesive didn't grab as well there. Cleaned it really well and gave it a day and it's holding now, just be aware.

Renter friendly and no holes

My lease says no drilling and I've lost deposits before. This stuck right onto the shower tile and I can pop it off with a little heat when I move. Holds my bar soap and a small nail brush fine.

Fine for soap, wish it held more

It does exactly what it says and the soap stays dry, which is the main thing. But I tried to fit my wife's big sponge and a scrubber in the compact one and it was tight. If you have more than one bar, get the double.

Looks like ceramic, not plastic

I was worried ABS would look cheap but the glossy finish really does read like ceramic. It's been up for about six weeks and no yellowing or scratches. The drain grid pops out easy when I want to rinse it.

Bought the double for shower and sink

The 9.4 inch one has two compartments so I put a bar at the sink side and my shampoo bar in the shower side. Both stay dry and the front panel closes flat so it just looks like part of the wall. Way better than the rusty wire caddy I had before.

Good but adhesive needs cure time

I was impatient and loaded it with soap about an hour after sticking it up. It slid down a little overnight. I re-pressed it and waited the full day like the instructions said, and it's been solid for three weeks now. Just don't rush it.

Compact size fits my tiny sink

Measured my backsplash before ordering and the 5 inch version is perfect. It's flush against the wall and doesn't stick out like my old ceramic dish did. The rose-gold trim is subtle and matches my faucet pretty well.

Finally, no more soap mush

I was so tired of the grey goo at the bottom of my old dish. This little box holds my bar up on the grid and it actually dries between uses. Took maybe five minutes to stick on the tile and I didn't have to bug my landlord about drilling.
